Is the Grinch Breakfast at Universal Orlando Worth It?

For families with Grinch-loving kids, yes. You get a sit-down breakfast, time with the Whos of Who-ville, and a guaranteed Grinch photo without standing in a standby line that can stretch past three hours. If your crew isn't into the Grinch, or you're visiting on a quiet weekday in early December, you can probably skip it and save the money.

Think of it as two things in one: a holiday character meal and a Grinch meet and greet that doesn't eat up your park day.

What Is the Grinch and Friends Character Breakfast?

It's a holiday-only character breakfast at Universal Orlando starring the Grinch and the Whos of Who-ville. It's part of Grinchmas, the Seuss Landing holiday celebration at Islands of Adventure, which runs November 14, 2026, through January 3, 2027.

The breakfast is held at Circus McGurkus Cafe Stoo-pendous, the big circus-tent restaurant in Seuss Landing. Every inch is decked out for the season, with candy-striped ceilings, garland, and Who-ville trees.

It's a separate, paid add-on. It's not included with your park ticket, and it's not part of the free Grinchmas show or the regular Grinch meet and greet. For everything else happening at Universal this season, see our Universal Orlando holidays guide.

When Do Grinch Breakfast Reservations Open for 2026?

Universal hasn't announced the 2026 booking date yet. In 2025, reservations opened October 8, and in 2024 they opened around October 30, so 2026 booking could open any day.

  • Where to book: online at UniversalOrlando.com/holidays (look under Tickets, then Extras and Events). Annual Passholders have booked by phone at 407-224-7554 to get their discount.

  • How far ahead: reservations are prepaid and must be made at least 24 hours in advance.

  • Walk-ups: not allowed. Seating is limited, and there's no official waitlist.

  • How fast it sells out: popular mornings sold out within days last season, and some dates went the same evening booking opened in 2024.

  • Changes: last season, changes to your party size went through Guest Services.

TIP: If your dates are sold out, keep checking. Spots pop back up when other families change plans, especially in the week before.

How Much Does the Grinch Breakfast Cost?

Last season it was $58.99 for adults and kids 10 and up, and $32.99 for kids ages 3 to 9, plus tax. Universal hasn't released 2026 prices. These prices held steady from 2023 through 2025, so they're a good budget guide.

Here's what last season's prices look like for a family, before tax:

  • 2 adults and 1 child: $150.97

  • 2 adults and 2 children: $183.96

  • 2 adults and 3 children: $216.95

  • 4 adults and 2 children (grandparents along!): $301.94

What's included: a shared starter for the table, one entrée per person, one non-alcoholic drink per person, and a two-pack of Grinch sugar cookies.

  • Annual Passholders: last season Premier Passholders saved 15% and Preferred Passholders saved 10%. The 2026 discount hasn't been announced.

  • Kids under 3: Universal hasn't listed a price for them. Ask your Travel Specialist before you book.

  • Not included: park admission, Universal Express, and photo packages.

Do You Need a Park Ticket for the Grinch Breakfast?

Yes. You need an Islands of Adventure ticket (or a Park-to-Park ticket) for the same day as your breakfast. The breakfast reservation doesn't include park admission.

That's why we usually plan the breakfast for a day you're already spending at Islands of Adventure. It pairs perfectly with a Hogsmeade and Hagrid's morning, then Grinchmas shows in the afternoon.

Staying at a Universal hotel? Early Park Admission lets hotel guests into a select park up to one hour early, but it's separate from the breakfast. Your breakfast time is your breakfast time.

What Happens at the Grinch and Friends Character Breakfast?

It's a plated, sit-down breakfast with characters roaming the room. You don't go to a buffet. Your server brings everything to the table.

Here's how the morning usually goes, based on last season:

  • Check in: at a podium outside Circus McGurkus about 15 minutes before your time. Staff text you when your table is ready.

  • The starter: a giant shared cinnamon roll lands on your table first.

  • The Whos: Who-ville characters like Cindy-Lou Who, Martha May Who, and Lou Lou Who visit tables, chat with the kids, and lead sing-alongs like "Deck the Halls." They usually come by more than once.

  • Sam-I-Am: has his own photo spot inside the restaurant.

  • The Grinch: the "guest of honor," with his own photo line inside the restaurant (more on that below).

  • How long: plan on about 1½ to 2 hours from check-in to your last photo.

There's no formal stage show. The fun is the characters improvising with your family, and the Whos are hilarious with the kids.

How Do You Meet the Grinch at the Breakfast?

Last season, families met the Grinch in his own photo line inside the restaurant, not at the table. Each family got a souvenir postcard from the Grinch (his "un-invitation"), and that card was your ticket into his line.

A souvenir Grinch postcard from a past Grinch and Friends Character Breakfast with "Thank you for visiting" crossed out and "Go AWAY! Grinch" written over it
  • Staff punch a heart on your card when it's your turn.

  • The line inside the restaurant ran about 20 minutes last season, much shorter than the park's standby line.

  • The Grinch takes his time with each group and stays fully in character, so expect sass.

  • You can meet him before your food arrives or after you eat. Ask your server how long the line is.

Here's what surprises people: one popular guide says the Grinch visits every table, but most 2025 reviews describe the separate photo line. Either way, every family gets their Grinch photo.

TIP: Bring your own camera or phone, and have one adult ready to snap pictures. No source confirmed an included photo package last season.

What Is on the Grinch Breakfast Menu?

Last season's menu was a shared cinnamon roll for the table, plus one entrée and one drink per person, plus Grinch sugar cookies. Universal hasn't posted the 2026 menu yet, so here's the 2025 version for reference.

Shared starter

  • Cinn-a-Who Welcome Wheel: a warm, extra-large cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting, cookie crumbles, and fresh fruit

Adult entrées (pick one)

  • Green Eggs and Ham Quiche: ham and gruyère quiche

  • Betty Lou Who Fluffy Ricotta Pancakes: with blueberry compote

  • Mrs. Toffee Apple Dapple Cluck Crunch Chicken Sandwich: crispy chicken on a maple apple fritter

  • Smoked brisket hash: with a fried egg

  • Pistachio-stuffed French toast

  • Chilaquiles verdes: with fried eggs and avocado

  • Everything bagel: with smoked salmon

  • Vegan rancheros tostadas: the plant-based option

Kids' entrées (ages 3 to 9)

  • Grinch pancake stack: with strawberries and red sugar

  • Waffles: with berries and green sugar

  • Scrambled eggs: with bacon and crinkle fries

Drinks (one per person)

  • Grinch sour apple ICEE with whipped cream (the green one every kid wants)

  • Juice, milk, coffee, tea, hot cocoa, or soda

Dessert

  • A two-pack of Grinch sugar cookies for each guest

The menu changes a bit every year. Earlier seasons served dishes like Martha May's Chicken and Waffles and a holiday dessert plate, so don't fall in love with one dish until the 2026 menu is out.

Food allergies or special diets? Note them when you book and tell your server when you sit down. Universal's chefs can usually adjust dishes, and last season's menu had a vegan entrée.

What Time Should You Book the Grinch Breakfast?

Book the earliest seating you can get. Last season, seatings started as early as 7 a.m., and an early table means you finish around the time the park opens, so you don't lose prime ride time.

  • Earliest seatings: you may get into Seuss Landing before the park opens, while it's quiet. This has happened in past years but isn't confirmed for 2026.

  • Mid-morning seatings (around 10 a.m. and later): cost the same but take a big bite out of your park day.

  • Past seating windows: 7:00 to 9:15 a.m. in 2023, and 8:00 to 11:15 a.m. every 15 minutes in 2024.

TIP: Plan the breakfast for your first park morning, not your last. Little ones are fresher, an early wake-up is easier, and the Grinch photo sets the tone for the whole trip.

Can You Meet the Grinch at Universal Without the Breakfast?

Yes. The Grinch meets guests at the Honk Honkers shop in Seuss Landing, and it's included with Islands of Adventure admission. The catch is the line.

A "Meet the Grinch" sign in Seuss Landing at Universal's Islands of Adventure showing a 300 minute wait time

Yes, that sign says 300 minutes. Here are your three ways to meet him:

  • Free standby line at Honk Honkers: standby only, and last season waits ran from about 75 minutes in the late afternoon to more than three hours in the morning. Times aren't published, so check the Universal Orlando app.

  • The Grinch and Friends Character Breakfast: a guaranteed Grinch photo plus breakfast and the Whos, with a much shorter line - OUR RECOMMENDATION

  • The Universal Holiday Tour: a guided tour of about 2½ hours, from $69.99 per person plus tax, with a private Grinch and Max meet, reserved seating for the Grinchmas show, and a Santa meet. It needs a Park-to-Park ticket - OUR RECOMMENDATION

Don't miss the free Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular either. It's a live stage show of about 25 to 30 minutes in Seuss Landing that tells the story of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, with a real dog playing Max. Last season it ran at 10:15 and 11:15 a.m. and 12:15, 1:15, 3:30, 4:30, 5:30, and 6:30 p.m. The 2026 times will be in the Universal Orlando app.

Bottom line: if meeting the Grinch is a must, the breakfast is the best value. It costs less than the Holiday Tour, and it saves you hours in line.

Who Is the Grinch Breakfast Best For?

It's best for families with kids ages 3 to 9, first-time Grinchmas visitors, and multi-generational trips where grandparents want a sit-down break with the grandkids.

  • Great fit: Grinch-obsessed kids, families who'd rather not spend half a morning in the standby line, and anyone celebrating a birthday or first Christmas trip.

  • Adults only? You're welcome! Plenty of grown-up Grinch fans go.

  • Maybe skip it: if you only have one day for both parks, if your kids aren't into the Grinch, or if you're visiting on a quiet early-December weekday when the free meet line is shorter.

What Tips Make the Grinch Breakfast Better?

A few small things make a big difference:

  • Book the minute reservations open. Set an alert, or let your Travel Specialist watch for it.

  • Arrive 15 minutes early to check in at the podium.

  • Dress the part. Grinch green, Who-ville red, holiday pajama sets, or Santa hats all make your photos pop.

  • Bring something for the Grinch. Kids love handing him a drawing or a little "gift." A running joke is giving him an onion. Expect a big reaction.

  • Eat first, then meet the Grinch if his line is long when you sit down.

  • Plan your morning around it. Afterward, the Seuss Landing rides (The Cat in the Hat, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, the Caro-Seuss-el, and the High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride) are right outside the door.

  • Catch the Grinchmas show later. It's a different experience from the breakfast, and it's included with your ticket.

What Hasn't Universal Announced Yet for 2026?

Universal confirmed that Grinchmas returns November 14, 2026, through January 3, 2027, but hasn't shared breakfast details yet. Still to come:

  • Breakfast dates and seating times

  • Adult and child prices

  • The booking date

  • The 2026 menu

  • The Annual Passholder discount

  • Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular show times

We'll update this guide the moment Universal releases them. Last season the breakfast ran on select mornings from November 21, 2025, through January 4, 2026, so expect a similar window.
