WHY WE CHARGE A PLANNING FEE

Planning a great vacation takes real time, real expertise, and genuine personal investment. Before a single reservation is made, your Travel Specialist has already spent significant time learning about your family, researching destinations and suppliers, comparing options, and building a plan designed specifically around your needs, travel style, and budget.

A professional planning fee reflects that work. Just as you would pay an attorney, financial advisor, or any other professional for their time and expertise, a planning fee ensures your Travel Specialist can give your trip the focus and care it deserves from start to finish.

Our Travel Specialists are trained, certified, and well-traveled. They bring firsthand destination knowledge, industry relationships, and years of experience to every trip they plan. A planning fee makes it possible for them to invest the level of time and attention your vacation requires...not a rushed or cookie-cutter approach, but thoughtful, dedicated planning built around you.

BUT ISN'T A TRAVEL AGENT FREE?

It's a fair and common question. Traditionally, travel agents were compensated through commissions paid by hotels, cruise lines, tour operators, and other suppliers after travel was completed. That model still exists, and some of our Travel Specialists continue to operate that way for certain types of trips.

However, commissions alone do not cover the full scope of what a dedicated Travel Specialist actually does. The hours spent on initial consultation, destination research, custom itinerary building, reservation management, and ongoing client support go well beyond what a standard booking commission can support in terms of a livable/hourly wage...particularly for complex trips that require careful strategy and significant planning time.

A planning fee ensures your specialist can give your vacation the focused attention it deserves. It is not an added charge on top of your trip cost. It is what makes the difference between a vacation that was simply booked and a vacation that was truly planned.

HOW OUR FEES WORK

At Second Star Wishes, planning fees vary by Travel Specialist and by the type of trip being planned. Not all trips are created equal...some require significantly more research, coordination, and strategic planning than others, and our fees reflect that reality rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach.

Here is what you can expect:

• Some of our Travel Specialists charge a planning fee for every trip they plan, regardless of destination or complexity.

• Some charge fees only for certain types of trips - such as more complex international itineraries, cruises, or multi-destination vacations

• Some of our specialists may choose to waive a fee entirely.

Regardless of approach, every Second Star Wishes Travel Specialist will be completely transparent about their fees before any work begins. You will never be surprised by a charge you were not expecting. Your specialist will clearly outline their fee structure during your very first conversation so you can make a fully informed decision before moving forward.

Whether or not a planning fee applies to your trip, every Second Star Wishes client receives dedicated, personalized service from a Travel Specialist who is invested in the outcome of your vacation.
